Nevertheless, its massive reach and its informal and dynamic nature offer opportunities for innovation in building a safer world for women and girls on- and offline.

Virtual spaces like social media are sometimes used to perpetuate direct attacks on women and girls, ranging from cyber stalking to the posting of inappropriate images of women. According to statistics it definitely comes as a shocker to learn that have increasingly reported incidents of footages of them engaged in sexual activities, including rapes being posted. Such does affects ones mental health, personal and professional relationships even leading to depression and anxiety.

Interventions could use social media algorithms to send targeted messages aimed at preventing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality . this presents a collaborative opportunity for researchers and civil society to combine social media with other violence protection interventions.
